To become a juke box hit of the 70s seemed almost easy, as there were a huge number of one-hit wonders but it also supported a number of long-term careers
Johnny Nash, for example, enjoyed by far the biggest hit of his journeyman’s career with the infectiously upbeat reggae I Can See Clearly Now-a definite juke box hit of the 70s. He later used Bob Marley’s band to record I Can See Clearly Now, the positive message of which resonated as a juke box hit of the 70s around the world, even if Nash never again came close to comparable success.

Jimmy Buffet had a smash juke box hit of the 70s with the release of Margaritaville, the infectious Florida Keys “feel good” song that is as popular with Florida tourists today as it was as a juke box hit of the 70s. Steve Miller released The Joker and it became a juke box hit of the 70s, just like it was in the 80, the 90’s and still is today!
Elton John had a couple of monster hits that are classed as a juke box hit of the 70s including Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and the classic juke box hit of the 70s Bennie And The Jets. The late great Marvin Gaye had a monster juke box hit of the 70s when he released What’s Going On. Sadly, it was his last hit before his tragic passing.
